Sensor100 November 2017 4 From the Editor... Some changes are long overdue at Sensor100. Started in 2011 as an experiment in social media, it has over the past six years grown from a single email to a 20-30 page flipping book. When we started, we said it would always be free, but over the years, costs have risen. So too has the amount of time it takes to produce it each month. It is always interesting to edit, and I possibly spend too much time reading about new develop- ments. Seeing our network grow has been interesting too, and has found some previous mentors (Bernard Fleet and Gary Rechnitz) as well as old friends (Jiri Janata and Dick Durst). If we are to continue, we need to put Sensor100 on a more solid financial foundation. It is likley that we will introduce a subscription scheme in 2018, and if you want to avoid that, make a voluntary donation now, and we will waive 2018 fees for you. We didn’t really attract the audience we needed for Sensors in Food and Agriculture 2017, so we have postponed it until early 2018, to give us more time to build support - which so far seems to be now forthcoming. More inside. Finally many thanks to those of you have sent good wishes, and expressed concern over my health. I have a chronic skin infection which for the past eight weeks has defied antibiotics, and appears to be continuing to do so. As my son once said, if this was happening to someone else, it would be funny. Kind regards Michael Brand michael@sensor100.com
