Sensor100 August 2020 20 Trained Dogs Can Smell Coronavirus It took only a week of training. Researchers at the University of Veteri- nary Medicine in Hanover, Germany, have found that dogs are able to sniff out the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 with astonishing accuracy. During tests, they found that eight dogs from Germany’s military could correctly identify the presence of the coronavirus 94 percent of the time after only being trained a week, as Bloomberg reports. “We think that this works because the metabolic processes in the body of a diseased patient is completely changed,” Maren von Koeckritz-Blickwede, a professor at the university, said in a video statement post- ed by the university onYouTube.“We think that the dogs are able to detect a specific smell produced” by the metabolic process.
