Sensor100 August 2020 4 From the Editor... Did you have a good summer? Normally at this time of year children return to school, everyone returns to work and the conference season resumes in earnest. But not this year. In the UK, schoolchildren have reluctantly returned to school, a significant number of parents keeping their children home. Many companies have announced that they are encouraging working from home, and there have been a number of lay- offs and company closures announced. The conference season has gone virtual with some going ahead as live events, with guarantees of safe- guarding. One suspects this may be because expensive venues have been pre-booked without cancellation rights or insurance. All of this, of course, because the coronavirus has not gone away, but globally is continuing to escalate. Testing is happening, new and bet- ter tests are being announced if not daily then at least frequently. The search of a vaccine continues with superpowers vying with each other to see who gets there first. Deplorably, the US has withdrawn from what should be an international humanitarian effort, and has canceled its WHO membership. By the end of 2021 hopefully all this will seem a distant memory.
